About the Artist
Aaron Laux
Aaron Laux is a wood sculptor and mosaic artist whose decade-long apprenticeship with Steven Spiro, years spent living off-grid in a self-built yurt, and extensive travel — including a year in South India — forged both his technical mastery and his enduring exploration of humanity's relationship to the natural world. His diverse body of work spans original art, public and architectural commissions, and community-based projects, with recent large-scale installations for healthcare institutions and exhibitions including GLEAM at Olbrich Botanical Gardens and the Handmade Craft Invitational at the Dubuque Museum of Art. Increasingly engaged with climate change — most recently through Madison Arts Commission's “The Phoenix from the Ashes” — Laux uses unexpected combinations of technique and material to remind us that we are not separate from nature, but woven into it.
